that only 16% have improved drinking water and a mere 10% have basic sanitation facilities. Most sewage run-offs travel through the streets and drainage ditches in the center of town. We share these alarming facts and statistics to stress the urgent need.

Trying to put food on the table is the most important task of each day. During a mission trip in 2003 an American pastor preached at one of the local villages. After the service, “he felt led” to give some money to the Romanian pastor. As he handed him the money, tears poured down the Romanian mans face. The American asked what was wrong. He replied that he had been praying all day for the resources to buy some bread to take home to his family. He was dead broke and there was no food at home. This divine occurrence was the start of our “Romanian Pastors Support Program.”

Most village pastors have no formal training but share a desperate conviction for their lost brothers and sisters. They have stepped out in faith and answered the call to “preach the gospel”. They want to share the hope and joy of Jesus to a famished and hurting people living in destitute conditions. Because the villages are so small congregations average between 25-60 members, who have little resources to support their pastor.

The average income for a rural village pastor is $1068/year, which is $89/month or $2.96/day. With so little income, rural village pastors face the daily struggle of providing food for their families just to survive.
